The mail service
One of MALT’s first tangible outcomes and its hardest: migrating around 40,000 mailboxes and 50–60 TB from Microsoft Exchange to the open-source Kopano, chosen after market research, evaluation and proofs of concept, and backed by a support contract with the vendor. Mail is the service where “avoid vendor lock-in” stops being a principle and becomes a project plan.
